God is Calling me Elsewhere
For those who were not here last week, as of July 1st I am being reassigned to the Gary cluster. I will be working with the people of Gary.
I am very excited about this possibility, and what it could mean. The Bishop has a vision for the city of Gary, and has asked me to be a part of its implementation. It took me awhile to wrap my hands around this invitation, but after I did I realized this is a perfect opportunity for me.
I have been called to do exactly what I did here 19 years ago; I will only be doing it with a different culture. I have often said I would only leave St. Teresa’s if I got called to the city of Gary, be careful what you pray for!! The Bishop lives in the rectory connected with the Cathedral, and so I will be living and working with my boss. I am not sure who you should pray for him or me!
The Bishop has chosen the perfect individual to take my place. It is exactly who I would have chosen, if I had a say. Fr. Chris Stanish is an assistant at Queen of All Saints in Michigan City. He is young, energetic, and prayerful, and like me, very excited about his opportunity. He will be a pastor for the first time, just like myself 19 years ago. As a community, you are the perfect place to train, empower, and affirm a new pastor. The students will relate to him very well.
Finally, this was my choice. The Bishop told me that he wanted me to only take this position if I felt like I was being called to walk with the people of Gary. He gave me every opportunity to say no, but I couldn’t. Please pray for me, as I will do you. Please pray for the students as they transition. Please pray that the will of God may be accomplished.
God bless you all.
